NO RESOLUTIONS, JUST A BETTER YOU!

It has become a common tradition in the Western Hemisphere that everyone starts the new years with long lists of resolutions. You hear things like, “I want to lose weight”, or “I really must quit smoking this year”, “I need to practice going to bed on time” and the list goes on and on. . . I never really got into the whole resolution thing as much I focus on retrospect.

For me its simply a time to reflect, a chance to reset and start fresh or just to continue what I’ve always done, LIVE. Majority of people fail at sticking to their resolutions. Three months in, they have dropped off their intentions and given up. Reason: When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Everyone wants the end result, but not many are willing to put in the work.  Some are honestly not discipline enough for the task. But if it is important, you will find away to attain your goal. At times doing the small things make way for the ultimate prize.

I believe all things are attainable. I just don’t feel like restricting yourself to resolutions makes it any easier to reach. Here is my take on 5 popular resolutions :

  1. Lose Weight :  Commit to becoming a healthier you. Don’t anguish over going in the gym everyday or starve yourself on fad diets. Frankly put, move more and eat less. Take your dog for a walk, play tag with the kids( or the big kid in your life), eat the things you like, but in moderation.
  2. Learn to be Happy : Just live in the moment, just be who you are. Once you appreciate and accept all the wonderful things that make you who you are, happiness comes naturally. Happiness is yours. No need to learn something that is within. It just needs to be rediscovered.
  3. Become Wealthy: Unless you win the lotto or inherit a fortune, there is no quick way on this one. Wealth means different things to different people. In the monetary sense, lets just focus on saving and investing in your future. Cut back spending on the unnecessary (maybe like the cigarettes you want to quit smoking) and put something away every week or month. Don’t check the balance, just keep depositing a little away at a time. You will be surprise what you have saved after 3 or 5 years.
  4. Travel more: To see the world, you don’t necessarily have to go very far. The world is brought to our finger tips. You can virtually travel using the internet, but my favorite even now has been through reading. You are able to explore countries sometimes that are to costly to visit through reading books. But nothing is like seeing it first had. This is were no.3 comes in. You will need finances that will get you across the globe. Use this as a reason to save.
  5. Reinvent Yourself: This one is easy. Just strive to be better than you were yesterday. There is only one you and no one else can be that. Yes you can tweak a few things here and there. But you are uniquely and wonderfully made.

 

Its never to late to start over. If you aren’t happy with today, try something new tomorrow. Keep pushing forward. Small changes produce lasting affects.
